Easy steps to check Gold authenticity

Magnet test. These are non-magnetic substance, coin and gold easily slides-off on strong magnet whereas fake coin and gold sticks to strong magnet. Care should be taken with this method, however, as gold is not the only non-magnetic metal and it a fake coin could well pass this test. We recommend that you use the magnet test alongside one or several of the other tests mentioned in this article to be sure.
Acidic test. Inexpensive acid test kits can be used on gold. Just apply drop of this acid on sample of gold, if the color changes that means it is not authentic.
The premise idea behind this test is that gold is resistant to oxidation and corrosion and so pure gold will not be effected by the acid. Different strengths of acid are available to test different carats, so gold that doesn’t react to the acid is at least as pure as the carat rating suggested, if not higher. Conversely, if you apply acid marked for 22 carat gold to your 24 carat bar, you know that your gold is at best 22 carat gold, and maybe not gold at all.

Size and weight. Actually, gold and silver are super dense metals, much denser than base metal. Therefore, all fakes that weighs accurately will have thicker diameter or under-weight to have the right diameter.
Alternatively, inexpensive caliper or jeweler's scale can be used to affirm the weight, diameter and thickness of these precious metals to ensure that they conform to specified standard.
Look for stamp. Nearly all real gold is stamped with a hallmark that notes the karat weight of the jewelry, like 10K or 14K. This stamp is usually found on the clasp of a necklace or bracelet, or on the inner band of a ring. Since the purity of American-made gold jewelry is measured in karats, there will be a stamp on these pieces with a number followed by the letter "K". The number simply indicates, in parts per 24, how much of the metal is actually gold. For example, a mark of "14K" means that it is 14 karat gold and that 14/24 (just over half) of the metal is gold. By the same token, 24K would be 100% pure gold.
Professional Appraisal. A surefire way to tell if gold is real or not is to take it to a reputable jewelry dealer. A dealer has the type of testing kit that can be used to tell if something is real gold or fake. Most jewelry stores charge a small fee to test gold jewelry.
